Harvest Celebration

We invited our families to join us for our Harvest Celebration and we put our faith into action by donating food to a local food bank.

Harvest and Autumn are the time of year when we are reminded how truly beautiful God's creation is. A crunchy red and orange carpet of leaves blankets the earth, animals begin to prepare for winter by gathering their supplies and our crops, grown in God's soil and nurtured by us, are harvested.

Harvest is a time to thank God and listen with our hearts to his words.

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus talks about God as the farmer and us as the seeds.

The Parable of the Sower

A farmer went out to sow his seed.  As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path. These seeds were eaten by the birds.

Some seeds fell on rocky places, where there was a little soil. The seeds began to grow quickly, because the soil was shallow.  But the sun scorched these plants and they withered because the seedlings did not have strong roots.

Other seeds fell on good soil. These seeds grew into a strong crop.

This Gospel reading tells us that the seed that fell on good soil and gave a strong harvest is like the Word of God growing in our hearts. We want to be like the good harvest to serve and honour God.

When we hear and understand the word we walk in the footsteps of Jesus.
