Spring Term 1

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to all our families. This week we have had 7 new starters joining our nursery! They have settled very well and are enjoying exploring the nursery with the help of our already established children.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

Our focus story will last 3 or 4 weeks in the nursery. This will give the children the opportunity to really get to know the story. We have sequenced the story then made a story map which we used to act out the story, learning the repeated refrains throughout. We added sound effects to the story using instruments. We have become bear explorers, looking for the bears in the nursery and learning how to make 'tally marks' to represent how many bears we have found.

We will continue to learn about the story next week.

RSPB Bird Watch

As part of the school we have taken part in a bird watch for the RSPB. On forest Friday, we took our clip boards and went in search for birds! Seagulls, pigeons, sparrows, blackbirds, robins and blue tits. We were great at spotting them in the forest and around the school grounds. We will pass our results to Mrs Keith who will collate the whole schools results and send them to the RSPB. We might receive an award for taking part!

Forest Friday - We're Going on a Bear Hunt!

We went on our own bear hunt, searching the school grounds for the missing bears!

We used our forest to act out the different parts of the story. We we're all joining in with the refrains from the story!

"We're going on a bear hunt, we're going to catch a big one, what a beautiful day, we're not scared!"

Michael Rosen, the author, tells the story on You Tube if you would like to watch it with your child.

NSPCC - Number Day 2024

Thank you for helping us support the NSPCC with your £1 donations. The children looked great in their 'numbered clothes', some were very imaginative!

Our day has included lots of number and counting activities. Firstly, playing a game of pass the bear! Each person says the next number in sequence from 1-10, if you're holding the bear when it reaches number 10 then you are out the game. We coloured our favourite 'Numberblock' character and then we played a number hunt, matching the numeral to how many objects on the picture.

Chinese New Year - The Year of the Dragon

We have been learning about the new lunar year that families from around the world

celebrate. On Saturday 10th February, they will celebrate the Year of the Dragon! We have decorated our role play with lanterns and lucky colours of red and gold.

We looked at Chinese food and what they might eat at the celebration. Some of us are very good at using chopsticks to pick up the 'wool' noodles! We tasted prawn crackers and hoisin sauce, it was very nice!

We used handprints to make a Chinese dragon, adding spikes and legs to it!

Our dragon dance went right through the school as the dragon entered each class to wish them 'Kung Hey Fat Choy'! Ollie was great at being the dragon's head.
