A small selection from the thousands of photographs our keen historians and explorers captured when we visited the Hancock Museum! The children, and adults, had a great time at this fantastic museum. We learnt an awful lot about the Ancient Egyptians by exploring the exhibit and participating in a 'Land of the Pharaohs' workshop. We enjoyed the glorious weather outside (and got a quick practice in for the Skipping Festival!) and then had a brilliant time looking around the other exhibits. Be sure to ask us all about it! Check out the link below to see what's on at the Hancock Museum at the moment.

Year 4 Pyramid Building Challenge!

Year 4 Pyramid Building Challenge!

First we found about Zoser's (or Djoser's) step pyramid. We discovered that it was built for pharaoh Zoser by his architect Imhotep. Before this pharaohs had been buried in mastabas. The ancient Egyptians believed that the pyramid was like a gigantic stairway for the pharaoh to join the sun god in the sky! Our challenge was to work in pairs and  build a six-step pyramid. We could choose which type of blocks we used. We shared pyramid building tips throughout the lesson. As you can see all of our pyramids are different! We really enjoyed this challenge. We completed an evaluation sheet which included working out some really tricky calculations. We came to the conclusion that it must have been much harder to build an actual pyramid with huge sandstone blocks in the blazing sun!
