We're Going on a Square Hunt!
Today we went on a square hunt around our environment. We learned about squares and found that they have 4 sides which are all the same size, and 4 corners. We found lots of objects which are square shaped in our Nursery including some of our books, the telephone and a piece of cheese! We were great at investigating shapes and counting them all to see how many we had found!
Following on from our recent visit of 10 little chicks we continued our animal theme this week. We had great fun recording our own voices singing 'Old McDonald had a farm' as we made our own talking story book! We sorted farm animals, built ourselves a big farm with a tractor using the large construction blocks and we read lots of lovely stories! Maybe you have some stories about farm animals at home that you would like to share next week?
This week we have participated in the whole school Elmer curriculum week. We have learned lots about Elmer the elephant and his brightly coloured pattern.
Elmer is part of a herd of grey elephants. He is great at telling them jokes and making everyone laugh but he feels sad because he doesn't want to be different. He makes grey berry paint by squashing some fruit and he covers himself by rolling in the paint. When he looks grey all of the elephants are sad because they can't find their friend Elmer. When it rains the berry paint is washed off and Elmer shouts 'BOO' and gives his friends a shock.
Elmer's friends love that he is different and special, so to make him realise this they all paint themselves with different coloured patterns!
We have learned lots about patterns, shapes and colours this week. Some children have painted elephants, some children have used coloured squares to decorate an Elmer! We found different ways to squash berries to make our own paint; it was very messy but we had lots of fun!
Chicks in the Nursery
We have had a very exciting 2 weeks in our nursery! We have had the chance to observe the 10 eggs in the incubator and have been very lucky to see some of them hatch! We have 6 girls - Fluffy, Elsa, Belle, Beauty, Lucky and Chickaletta! and 4 boys - Harry, Jack, Prince and Chirpy!
We have learned so much about the chicks while they've been here.
How they have grown, how to take care of them, what they eat and how to handle them! We love them so much!
We had great fun outside today on our math's hunt. We all had a challenge card and we needed to search for numbers or shapes in the forest. We worked very hard and looked really carefully to find the solution to our challenge!
