Summer 1

Sunflowers!

This week in our nursery we have been learning about sunflowers.

With the help of Mr Bell we planted our own sunflower seeds in the allotment. They are in the polytunnel where we have been remembering to water them each day. We have noticed that some have developed shoots already!

We have been engaged in lots of sunflower based activities throughout the week - using blocks and counters to measure different sized sunflowers, handprint sunflowers, looking at Van Gogh's Sunflower picture and being inspired to create our own and making our own suncatchers using newly grown flowers and leaves from our forest! What a busy week!

The Rainbow Fish

We shared the story of The Rainbow Fish. It is a great story to learn about sharing and that if you are kind to others it will make you feel good yourself. This has been a great introduction to our 'behaviour traffic light' system where we have been thinking about making 'Good Choices' yes  eg good sitting, good listening, kind hands and feet, taking turns, good tidying etc

We made fish shaped biscuits and decorated them to give to our friends.

"I am being kind." - Freddie

"I made Olivia a biscuit because she will like it." Jase

"I made Otis a biscuit, it had lots of sweets on it." Charlie

We have loved looking at all the different sea creatures so we have made a 'under the sea' investigation area! We are sea explorers! Next week we are going to follow our interest in the sea by sharing more stories and activities!

Woodwork Week

This week at our nursery we have been learning about the role of a carpenter. Both Joseph and Jesus were carpenters and we learned about the tools they used to make things with wood.

Mrs Raine modelled how to use the tools safely as the tools we were using in the nursery were real tools. We practised using the tools and some of us were able to join pieces of wood together to create a  piece of woodwork.

Gardening with Mr Bell

Over the last 2 weeks we have been working in our school allotment with Mr Bell.  He showed us how to prepare the beds, how to use the tools safely, how to plant our seeds and how to look after our plants.  We have planted beetroot, cabbage, onions and sunflowers.

We have been learning the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.  He was so hungry that he ate lots of food, and grew into a very big caterpillar.

We have our own caterpillars in Nursery which are eating the special caterpillar food so that they grow too.  We are watching them closely to see how they change.

Special Visitors

Emilia had some chicks hatch in her chicken coop at home so she brought them in for us to meet. We used careful hands to hold them and we loved how soft and fluffy they were!
