World Book Day: Year 4 had a lovely time dressing up as their favourite characters. Can you guess their favourite books?
STEM activities: Linked to the topic, Blue Abyss, the children made submarines in a bottle. By pressing both sides of the bottle the submarine move up and down. Do you know why this happened? We were able to discuss how we could make this a fair test and identify the exact conditions for the moving submarine.
Food chains: As part of the Blue Abyss topic, Year 4 have been learning about food chains in our oceans. Overfishing can cause problems for our food chains, can you explain why?
Music: This term Year 4 are learning to play the Djembe Drums. Do you know where these drums came from?
Tennis Festival: Year 4 enjoyed taking part in a Tennis Festival organised by St Wilfrid’s RC College. Playing skill games, and practising strokes revealed some future tennis stars.
Blue Abyss: The memorable experience for Year 4 was a trip to the Blue Reef Aquarium at Tynemouth. The children found out lots of exciting facts about sharks, like how many teeth they have, the two different kinds of shark teeth and we touched the skin of a shark, (it feels like sandpaper!). Do you know how sharks link to the USA Olympic swimming team? We investigated the rock pools and learnt about the life of a starfish, anemone, and hermit crab. The seals were very entertaining, but it was a bit too cold to be splashed by them. A fantastic day with lots of memories to include in our writing.
