'Why is Water Wet?' - Our Memorable Experience

We visited Haven Point with our grown ups. We had lots of fun jumping and splashing in the pool! Lots of us were very brave and went down the yellow slide.

"It went really fast." Evie W

For some of us it was the very first time we had visited a swimming pool so it was a great experience to share with our nursery friends.

At nursery, we looked at photos of our visit and were able to remember and talk about our experience.

Our Memorable Experience - Haven Point

Following our topic, we shared the story 'Who Sank The Boat?"

It led to a lot of discussions about floating, sinking, heavy and light things.

We investigated lots of different objects and tried to predict if they would float or sink.

When asked why the wooden stick was floating ;

Harley D said "The water is lifting it up."

Olly said "It's not very heavy."

Evie W predicted "I thought it would float because it's not very heavy."

When asked why the coin had sank;

Kaylen thought "Because it is round."

Zac thought "It was heavy."

Hannah said "Because it's gone to the bottom!"

Maybe when your in the bath see what things you have in your house that floats and sinks!

We have had a fantastic week in Nursery learning about Chinese New Year celebrations.  The children learned all about the Chinese dragon and how it brings good luck; then they made their own red and gold dragons, joined in with a dragon dance and added instruments too!

We learned the story of how the years were named, took on roles to tell the story ourselves and tasted some delicious Chinese noodles!

We had fantastic parental support today for our Phonics Cafe.  The response to the cafe was brilliant and hopefully parents and carers who attended will be able to use their new knowledge and skills to further enhance their child's learning at home!

Kidsafe

This week we introduces KS our Kidsafe monkey.  We introduced ourselves to him and began to think about which adults we can trust to look after us.  The children really enjoyed giving KS high-fives and we are looking forward to him visiting us again next week.

Exploring Paint Mixing

We thought about the 'cold colours' of Winter and we explored how to mix different liquid paint colours to create darker and lighter shades of the colours.  The children were fantastic at mixing the two colours until they were all combined and had made a new colour.  Some children used these new skills in their child initiated work time to make 'Frozen' pictures.

The Nursery children have been learning a new game called 'popcorn'. When the pan 'pops' the children have to collect the beanbags as quickly as they can and put them back inside the pan.  It was a tricky game but all of the children listened really well and managed to collect the corn faster than Mrs Raine!

Bubbles

As part of our STEM week investigations, we linked our 'water' topic to investigation.  We investigated blowing bubbles, popping bubbles, playing a Physical development game called 'Bubbles' as well as making circular shapes 'round like bubbles' in some shaving foam.

The children and staff had a wonderful time being bubble detectives!
