This week has been a very busy week in our classroom! We have been developing our counting skills, exploring Numicon, thinking about our feelings, having messy play fun and participating in our first class liturgy. Well done to all of you for your hard work, we are so proud of you.
This week we have been learning all about the celebration of Diwali. The children read the story of Rama and Sita, they participated in some Bollywood style dancing, they sampled some Indian snacks as well as making their own lamps using clay.
They have also been working hard with their numbers, and exploring different ways to make 5 using Numicon, and they have been using and manipulating the sounds s,a,m,r,i and t.
Great work everyone!
As part of our 'Celebrations' topic we have been reading the story of The Scarecrow's Wedding. The children were really enthusiastic about planning and having their own wedding! They particularly enjoyed dressing up.
We have been working hard to write cvc words in phonics, as well as exploring different types of equipment and techniques in PE.
Our Maths this week has been focusing on 2D shapes. We named and described the shapes, made shape pictures and went on a shape hunt.
Excellent work everyone!
This week we have all been so busy in Reception! We had a visit from 'Buttons the Bear' who asked us to help him to celebrate his birthday so we wrote invitations, wrote a shopping list for the party food, made cards and gifts for him and planned his party. We also thought about being kind to others and how important it is to say kind things to our friends. On Friday we celebrated Children in Need and came to school dressed in non-uniform to support children who are less fortunate than ourselves. We also participated in Nursery Rhyme week, learning a rhyme a day and building a stage to perform them on. Well done everyone!
This week we went on a Bear Hunt! We did bear hunt yoga, made a stage to perform our story and added instruments, we made an obstacle course which helped us to find the bear and we did some fantastic writing. We used lots of prepositional language and we used this to make maps, adding directions such as 'over the mud', 'through the trees', and 'across the cave'.
This week we have been enjoying the season of advent as we prepare for Christmas. We have all been very excited although we have continued to work hard. There have been lots of letters being counted, sorted and posted, decorations being made, and some fantastic reading and writing. Well done everyone!
