Welcome to Year 1!
We have all been very excited to get started in our new Year 1 class, this week we have been getting to know our new environment by exploring the new resources and going on a trail to find all of the 'zoomed in' resource pictures on our checklist. This was a sneaky challenge but we had a great time working together! We have also been getting started with our new topic, 'Houses and Homes' where we have been focusing lots on ourselves, so we have been exploring how to make self-portraits using loose parts.
In Maths this week, we have been sorting objects in different ways. This open-ended activity allowed us to explore lots of different ways to sort our loose parts in groups and share our ideas together. We worked hard to listen and share as a group.
In Science this term we have been learning all about materials. During this topic we have been sorting materials, describing materials, naming materials and experimenting with materials. We have worked really hard with using scientific vocabulary, asking and answering key questions.
The 3 Little Pigs Science Experiment
During our Science topic of, 'Materials' we have been exploring the features of different materials. Today, we explored the story of, 'The Three Little Pigs' to find out which materials is truly the strongest and why. We worked in groups to explore the 3 sets of materials; straws and clay, lollipop sticks and clay and Lego bricks. We enjoyed working together and sharing our ideas in teams, we created some very exciting and imaginative houses too!
