A warm welcome to our new Reception class!
The new children in Reception class have had a fantastic first few weeks settling into school and making new friends. We have all enjoyed exploring our new surroundings, trying out tasty school lunches, learning about all of the routines in our new classroom and, most of all, making lots of great friends! Keep visiting our page to see all of the fun and exciting learning happening over the coming year. There is a lot of fun to be had and we can't wait to get started!
Reception class have been having a great time learning about Autumn and the different changes that happen during this time of year. We all went on an Autumn hunt to develop our senses. We talked about things we could see, hear, smell, taste and touch at Autumn time and collected lots of leaves, twigs, pine cones and conkers to use in our classroom. We had a great time!
Reception Parent Lunch
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time when we invited our parents in to have lunch with us! We showed them how to take a tray and find their cutlery. We also helped them to choose their food and to make healthy choices, we all love eating cucumber and tomatoes at lunch time. We sat with our parents and used our cutlery properly, remembering our table manners and how to be polite. Our parents loved the experience and we all enjoyed seeing them and sharing this special time of the day with them.
In Reception class we LOVE Numicon! We use it to help us count, order numbers, add, subtract, find 'more' and 'less'...we even use it build with and weigh objects! We have been having a lot of fun getting to grips with Numicon in our classroom. We have made Numicon play dough cookies, we have printed with Numicon and paint, we have hidden Numicon in Autumn leaves and hunted for it, we have used our giant Numicon pieces outdoors, we have made a 'Numicon City' and we have even played 'pass the parcel' to reveal the value of different Numicon pieces. Look at all of our fantastic learning!
Stay and Play
Reception class have enjoyed having their parents in school to stay and play. We held two parent 'stay and play' sessions where the parents joined in activities linked to our class text 'Room on the Broom'. We made magic potions, listed ingredients to put in a magic cauldron, made pumpkin collages, ordered cauldrons from smallest to largest, ordered numbers on autumn leaves, made play dough potion ingredients and many more exciting activities! We hope to see our parents in school again during the spring term to take part in more fun activities.
