Autumn 1

Memorable Experience

We came into Nursery today to find that someone had left a big mess.  They had left tools, tape, bricks and blocks all over our outside area!  We had to be detectives and think hard about who might have left such a mess!  The children looked at the tools, the hard hat and the bricks and decided that it must have been 'Bob the builder'.  We had a 'Big Idea' and used the equipment he had left to make our imagination station into a building site!

In our nursery this week we have explored different kinds of bricks. We have practiced building towers and walls with them and found out which bricks worked the best.

We have been great at describing features of them.

"It's pointy." - Aston

"Its kind of flat." - Reed

"Its got a round bit." - Autumn

Some of us have been very competitive at seeing who could build the biggest tower!

We are builders!

This week in our nursery we have been learning about 'bricks'!

We looked at the shape of them on our nursery wall.

"It's a rectangle!". - Zac

We found rectangles and squares amongst our printing equipment and learned how to make walls using them in the Crafty Corner.

We made 'Sloppy cement' in our outdoor Sand Area as we learned that builders join the bricks together with cement to stop the buildings falling down - we were brilliant builders.

Finally, we used our outdoor Construction equipment to build a house. We thought about features of a house and made sure we added them to our building.

On your way home look at all the different kinds of buildings and houses!

Harvest Festival Celebrations in our Nursery

This week in our nursery we have been thinking about Harvest and what it means. We learned that Harvest is a celebration that happens in the Autumn. It is a time when the farmers gather the crops of vegetables, wheat and corn. We thanked God for helping them grow and provide lovely food for us to eat.

We have enjoyed learning Harvest songs in preparation for our Harvest Festival liturgy.

We have been learning about lot's of different vegetables. We made our own  vegetable soup recipe and then Mrs Porter went to the supermarket and bought them. We had lots of fun looking at them and we were great at describing them.

We used the vegetables to make our soup. It was lovely!

The Little Red Hen

This week we have learned the story of The Little Red Hen. We added actions and used our storytelling props to retell the story. We looked at different kinds of bread before making our own!

How Does That Building Stay Up?

Following our topic we used the junk modelling equipment to make our own 3D buildings.  We learned about applying the glue to the flat face of the box to join them together. We found it was better to let the glue dry before painting it.

"It makes it stronger." - Millie

"It won't fall down now." - Evie B

We made houses, castles and tall tower buildings. We have displayed our models in the school hall for everyone to see.
