As a school, we are very aware of the responsibility we all bear in terms of looking after our environment. Whenever possible, we aim to recycle paper because we understand this will reduce the amount of rubbish which is placed in landfill. It also prevents trees being cut down needlessly.
Two of our Y5 pupils take on the duties of emptying recycling bins placed around our school building each Friday. They also ensure that classroom lights and whiteboards are turned off in classrooms.
Groundwork North East and Cumbria
On Friday, 9th March, Groundwork NE and Cumbria launched a new recycling project at St Oswald's. The project relates to small WEEE - Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. We were able to provide a number of small electrical items and are now regularly collecting old batteries to be taken away for recycling. So far, we have collected nearly three boxes of batteries - which is a lot of batteries!
